Holy crap. It’s been over 10 months since I’ve posted. It’s not that I haven’t drawn in 10 months (although it’s fairly close to that), I just haven’t collected and scanned any of my scribbles. Here are two that were just sitting on top of a pile next to my desk. I figured I’d better get SOMETHING up here or this ole blog might just wither away…

I can’t believe it but it’s been over a month since I made it to drawing. Time is just flying by these days. I’d been really looking forward to drawing in my mega big pad again but I couldn’t find charcoal when I got to the studio so I went small. I think there’s something cool to be said for expecting one thing and getting thrown something completely different…

Decided to draw big again for the past two weeks. It’s fun to get on the floor and make a big mess. Charcoal forces you to do different things than a dainty little nib and the change felt good. Maybe I’ll stick with it in the coming weeks? These drawings were photographed on my living room floor with my phone (and no lights) so please pardon their crappiness, If I keep drawing big maybe I’ll set up some strobes to photograph the decent ones…

Wednesday was the first time I made it to drawing in almost 2 months. It’s absolutely amazing to me how fast time goes and how quickly 2 months can slip away from you. Dang. The first three are with a ball point pen (courtesy of Mr. Ian Worrel) and bottom two are rollerball warm ups…

I found these on my desk. I remember setting them aside to scan but I guess I forgot about ‘em. I’m pretty certain they are from the first week in January but they could be older. I do remember consciously trying to be more ‘graphic’ during this session but I definitely slipped back towards what I’m comfortable with. Damn you ‘personal growth’!!!

3 Month Break… Again

October to January is always insanely busy at JibJab so by the time February rolls around I am pretty tired and very rusty. It’s been almost 4 months since I made it down to the studio to draw and man, did I feel it! Since it had been so long I decided to draw with a different tool (a pencil) on a different size paper (8×11) so as to hopefully avoid falling into the same old habits. Not drawing for a while is a funny thing because I get this kind of brain-to-hand atrophy. My brain knows what my hand should be able to do but my hand just doesn’t want to listen. These are the most publishable of a not-so-publishable day. All are from the one minute warm ups…
